Programme Overview
The program will provide learners with specialized skills, knowledge and attitudes in agricultural production systems while laying greater emphasis on agricultural economics. These include but not limited to
- The manufacture and distribution of agricultural inputs and outputs; farming as a business;
- The determination of policies concerning agricultural production and consumption
- The financing of all aspects of agricultural production and the sale of agricultural products; economic evaluation of agricultural projects
- Agricultural development as well as research and advice on all these facets
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to this program,
- Applicants must satisfy the minimum university entry requirements of C+ (Plus) at KCSE or equivalent qualification recognized by KAFU senate. In addition, they must have attained at least C+ (plus) in any three of the following: Chemistry or Physical Sciences, Biology or Biological Sciences, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, Business Studies, Agriculture and Geography.
- Admission into second year of study may be granted to outstanding Diploma holders who have passed with distinction or credit or their equivalence in Agriculture or related disciplines offered by institutions recognized by KAFU senate. Those with pass and relevant experience will be admitted into the first year of study
Expected Learning Outcomes
On completion of the program, graduates are expected to have:
- Competence to effectively address emerging economic issues in agriculture,
- Adequate skills to conduct relevant research to help in effective decision making and solve emerging problems and challenges in modern agribusiness organizations,
- Proper attitudes to conduct agricultural economics practices within acceptable legal and ethical framework,
- Competitive global outlook and be able to advance to higher levels of academics in agricultural economics

Career Pathways
- Agribusiness corporations: large companies who process, distribute, and retail food. These companies employ specialists in economics to help them streamline their processes and improve their use of resources.
- Agribusiness consultants: use their knowledge of agricultural economics and market trends to provide advice to clients about land use, crop choice, agricultural business strategies, and resource management.
- Natural resource economics: is focused on managing resources such as food, water, air, minerals, and the environment as a whole.
- Agricultural manager: They oversee operations of one or more farms. They work in a variety of settings within agriculture including animal production, seed and chemical production, and the food sector
